Call for Creative Design: Impressions of China National Centre for the Performing Arts
The organisers of the Icograda World Design Congress Beijing 2009 are pleased to announce the call for Creative Design: Impressions of China National Centre for the Performing Arts.
On October 26, China’s National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) will be home to 2000 design professionals, educators and students for the opening ceremony, keynote presentations, award presentations and international design exhibitions of the Icograda World Design Congress Beijing 2009.
To mark this special event, the Congress organisers will launch a programme calling for creative designs based on the theme “Impressions of China National Centre for the Performing Arts”. As an important component of the Congress, the programme calls for exclusive art and design work from around the globe for NCPA’s collection and souvenir development purposes.
Successful entries will be collected and exhibited at NCPA, a platform of international art exchange. Furthermore, they will also be developed into souvenirs. A certificate of collection will be awarded to the designer at the award presentation of the Congress, and the designer’s signature will be acknowledged on all developed souvenirs.
Basic Requirements
1. The design must reflect the concept “Design for China”
2. The design must reflect the cultural and architectural features, as well as the branding, of NCPA
3. The design must be original and may be presented in various forms and/or mediums
Design Collection and Souvenir Development Policies
1. Entries will be reviewed by a jury formed of NCPA and Congress organisers. Successful entries will be collected by NCPA, and a certificate of collection will be awarded to the designer at the Congress opening.
2. NCPA reserves the right to any future development of souvenirs based on the entries. The designer’s signature will be acknowledged on any souvenirs developed.
3. The designer of entries which are developed into souvenirs will be awarded ten tickets to performances in the NCPA, effective within a period of one year

| 1 September 2009 | Deadline for the first stage of entry submission. Designs submitted before the date may be developed into souvenirs before the Congress opening. Realised souvenirs will be presented to the designer during the opening ceremony of the Congress. |

Forms of Design
Creative designs may fall under (but are not limited to) the following categories:
1. Print: posters, postcards, commemorative stamps, books
2. Public Art Installation & Public Facility: artworks and designs with reference to architectural language and materials (e.g. marble) of NCPA, or those that fit into its Grand Foyer and environment
3. Architectural Model of the NCPA
4. Textiles: eco-friendly or “green” bags, T-shirts, scarves and other textiles-related art
5. Traditional Crafts: for example, a Chinese-style folding fan or circular fan
6. Modern Crafts: including metal, wood and glass
7. Electronic Products: such as U discs, watches and clocks
8. Pottery: for example, tea sets, coffee sets and porcelain paintings
9. Trendy Design: such as badges, notebooks, bookmarks, name card holders and music boxes.
Intellectual Property
1. All entries must be original and previously unpublished. Any conflicts arising from intellectual property will be resolved by the designer. Under no circumstances shall the Congress organisers or NCPA be responsible for any legal liabilities.
2. NCPA has the right to include entries in press releases, publications and exhibitions.
3. Successful entries will be collected by NCPA and certificates of collection will be awarded to the designers.
4. NCPA has the right to develop successful entries into souvenirs.
5. The Congress organisers and NCPA reserve the right of interpretation of the terms.
Format of Submission
1. Design drawings, the Information Form and CD/DVD in TIF, AI, JPG formats
2. Design objects (pictures), the Information Form and CD/DVD in TIF, AI, JPG formats.
